Wow! Look at the disasters these bystanders made and just stood there costing everyone nearby who were late to save life on the dumping author's side! No wonder theres hate! There's embarassed shame at letting this go on while doing nothing to ensure no new settlers ever had to dump.

Now, lets go charge Polk their barren elementary school fields and thank them later!

Love the reveal of your explorations, David. Wish I could join you on those walks, but I’m having surgery the 27th. Hope you have them again!

This is a fun one, David. I’d love to know if there are now different invertebrate or algal assemblages on the submerged Denny mound than in surrounding “ordinary” benthos. Sounds like the particle sizes and maybe constituent bits are different given their adjacent terrestrial origin. It is also fun to imagine that my Dad at age 9 could’ve witnessed the scow drama with his parents and grandparents.

Looking at the (present) location of Denny Hill, it looks close to where the cruise ships dock at Pier 66. I am sure the workers from the past would be amazed at that co-location. In fact, I am amazed too!

I love that bathymetry image! Would it be accurate to say that the very steep slope on Virginia between Pike Pl and 1st is the remnant base of Denny Hill?

Sort of, kind of yes. Depends on how you define a hill. As you know, the modern high point is now Virginia and 2nd.
