I am down to five jars of Adam's Old Fashioned. I stock up when I find it on sale. It's one of the few examples of disaster planning I have actually followed through on.
Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein and can store for a long time. If power goes out, it won't go rancid like many other proteins do.

Jack's Peak! My writing getaway for several years was in a carriage house on Jack's Peak, where I paid $100 a month for a five-acre spread. They mostly wanted me up there to keep an eye out for fires. Beautiful, but a scary place to be in a wind storm, with all those Monterey Pines. Jealous of your time with Robert MacFarlane.
