My goodness!! A lake where none seems to have existed. My mind wandered to perhaps it is just a field that he made too light. Or was there a pool of fun up there between the bluffs that has now been filled like so much in our city?

I found in the 1936 the reservoir at Volunteer Park. That is way north from your estimate of Denny & 17th for the lake. I then googled the park and found it was first purchased in 1876. It had graves on it which were moved a bit over towards the then Mason Cemetery (now Lakeview). They opened it in 1887. The water works were not built until the turn of the century. So that is a bust.... unless he has the little lake that is not a lake in the wrong place.

Maybe he left space to draw something but never went back. Oh and it can't be the reservoir at Cal Anderson either. That wasn't built till turn of the century too.

So... thanx for the mystery!! Back to how he even got so much detail without an airplane.

Yes, a fine little mystery and yes, the detail is stunning.

David:

Many thanks for the view and the commentary!! But how did he do it? It is really hard to get this sort of perspective.....never mind in a bunch of different places!

David, That is the great riddle of these images. Truly an impressive imagination. DBW

I really enjoy the old "maps" and send them to friends who live or lived in SEA. Thanks for sharing them.
